In 1978 after 8 years as the owner of a private nursery school in University City, I made a major decision to sell my business and study at the University of the Arts. This redirection of my life was a commitment to a ten-year avocation---photographing and printing as an art form. I studied under the guidance of Thomas Goodman, Ron Walker, Jack Carnell, Fred Osborne, and most consequentially, Ray K. Metzker. Inspired by these artists, I refined my technical skills, but most importantly, my personal vision began to develop. The following years brought a period of golden personal exploration and the beginning of my life as an artist. The sale of my nursery school business funded that period and gave me the freedom to explore the medium of photography and to realize my artistic potential. I had made the commitment to be an artist.
I now support myself by the sale of my artwork. During the last 12 years I have averaged 25 exhibitions a year. Because my need to explore new ideas and develop new bodies of work is irrepressible, even with this hectic schedule, I have been able to keep my imagination fresh and vigorous. The series represented on my web site reflect a level of accomplishment that I have been working toward for many years.
In 1978 I made a commitment to become an artist. Now I am committed to the development of new ideas and to maintaining the most intimate and personal of journeys- the ceaseless refinement of a unique personal vision, and the continuous growth into artistic maturity.
