Center City Resident's AssociationFounded in 1947, CCRA is one of the city's oldest and most powerful civic associations. It is dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of life in the area between South Street and JFK Boulevard, Broad Street to the Schuylkill River.

The purposes of the Washington Square West Civic Association shall be to foster, protect and promote the welfare of that section of the City of Philadelphia, bounded by the east side of Seventh Street, the north side of Chestnut Street, the east side of Broad Street and the south side of South Street, to maintain an organization for the improvement of conditions generally in the aforesaid area for all persons including business and professional people who work in said area of the City of Philadelphia, and to engage in such other activities as may be necessary or incidental to the exercise of any or all of the aforesaid purposes. The Society Hill Civic Association (SHCA) is a pro-active volunteer organization serving more than 5,000 residents in over 3,000 households in the section of Philadelphia bounded by Front and Eighth Streets (East to West) and Walnut and Lombard Streets (North to South), located in the far east corner of Center City Philadelphia (see map). Membership is open to all residents, businesses, and organizations. Membership rolls currently total nearly 1,000.

Sugarloaf Mountain Works was founded in 1975 by Deann and George Verdier, a school teacher and an engineer respectively. Our original concept of providing a low overhead marketplace where artists and craftspeople could sell their unique creations direct to the public remains the cornerstone of this business.

The first Sugarloaf Craft Festival was held in Gaithersburg, Maryland in the spring of 1976. Over 10,000 people came out to see the 200 artisans we had gathered together. A success was declared by all and Sugarloaf Mountain Works was on its way! (top of page)
